Barreras para el ocio, estrategias de negociación y formas de resistencias en las danzas de tango y samba gafieira. Un estudio exploratorio en tres ciudades latinoamericanas

This article analyses the barriers, negotiation and forms of resistance during the practise and/or learning of ballroom dancing (tango and samba de gafieira), in three Latin American cities (Buenos Aires, Montevideo and São Paulo). These dances reproduce gender stereotypes, a reflection of a heteronormative hegemony deeply ingrained in the society. The objective of this work is to identify forms of resistance and negotiation strategies with which people, in general, and LGBTIQ groups face the barriers derived from gender stereotypes when dancing. The work is based on a qualitative methodological design, based on the study of multiple cases. The results confirm that the barriers related to gender stereotypes hinders access, participation and enjoyment of these dances, as leisure practices. The affected people react to barriers and seek negotiation strategies, in order to avoid them, eliminate them or mitigate their effects. Resistance is one of them.
